Beckenham & Bromley Myn Pub Evening In Penge
Wed 18 May 2022 - 20:00 to 23:00
Moon And Stars Pub, 164-166 Penge High Street, Penge, London SE20 7QS (Click for Map)

We hold two pub evenings a month on the first and third Wednesdays, with all the other Wednesdays being Zoom pub evenings. We also have a monthly quiz on the last Wednesday of the month, during the Zoom evening, at about 9pm. The quiz uses five themes chosen by one of our members, with both the themes and the theme organiser being different for each month, but with all members each asking one question per theme on each of the themes.

This means that tonight is an actual pub evening.

We are meeting at the Moon and Stars in Penge High Street, near the Sainsbury supermarket. The pub is a Wetherspoon establishment so we all know what to expect! Look for the IVC name on one of the tables. We usually try to sit towards the back of the pub, possibly in one of the booths on the right hand side.

ticket   Uea: Intersection Of Medicine And The Humanities
Thu 26 May 2022 - 18:30 to 19:30
ONLINE AND IN-PERSON AT THE ROYAL INSTITUTION OF GREAT BRITAIN, LONDON

YOU'RE INVITED TO THE NEW UEA LASDUN LECTURE

What is the intersection of medicine and the humanities? At our first London-based event in over two years, we will explore this emerging field of research with a very special panel event.

On the surface of things, these two subjects might seem unrelated. Join us to hear three leading UEA academics – Professor (and author of The Language of Kindness: A Nurse’s Story) Christie Watson, Dr Harriet Cooper and Professor Sally Hardy – give their insights into how medicine and the humanities converge to create a more holistic approach to healthcare.

What better place to host such an event than The Royal Institution of Great Britain, London. A venue with huge cultural and historical significance – and at the forefront of introducing new teachings in science to the public. It truly is a spectacle within itself and one not to be missed.

And – if that wasn’t enough – you will have the chance to see the work of recent UEA graduate, Dr Lena Ibrahim. Now working as an academic junior doctor at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, she began creating beautiful portraits of NHS staff to unwind after a stressful shift. A fantastic example of how medicine and the humanities can overlap in practice.

The event is open to all and will be followed by a Q&A and drinks reception. Read on for registration information.

Can't make it on the night? A recording of the event will be made available on our UEA Public Events YouTube channel the day after the event for you to watch and share.
