AGATHA CRUSTY AND THE VILLAGE HALL MURDERS
19:30 to 23:00
Britsh Home, Crown Lane, Streatham SW16 3JB

Our own Jonthan Murray stars as Toby Bishop in this wiity play on for three nights plus matinee on June 23rd at 3pm.

Agatha Crusty (pronounced Croosty) is a crime novelist. She's also pretty adept at solving crimes. And when her sister-in-law Alice invites her to spend a few days with her in the village of Chortelby, it's not long before she gets caught up in a series of murders which seem directed at members of the All Saints Village Hall committee.

From Toby, the Vicar, and Eleanor, Chair of the committee, to Harry Knott the caretaker and identical twins Olivia and Oliver Truscott-Pratt, there are plenty of suspects. And with an investigating officer as incompetent as D.I. Twigg, there are plenty of laughs as the murders begin to pile up.

But, while packed full of wit and very funny scenes, this is also a genuine murder mystery with an ingenious plot which will tax the little grey cells of the audience at the same time!

'Agatha Crusty And The Village Hall Murders' has already had more than seventy productions, and hundreds of performances, in the UK, Australia and the US.  Without exception, audiences have loved it and the cast and crew too.

This play is the first in a series of Agatha Crusty titles"

BECKENHAM & BROMLEY MYN PUB EVENING IN ANERLEY
20:00 to 22:50
Beckenham/Bromley's first Meet-Your-Neighbour pub evening of the month. There has been a pub on this site for at least 200 years and used to serve Anerley Pleasure Gardens as well as the adjacent canal. The present pub is pure Victorian and after a Gas explosion 38 years ago when everything 'went out through the windows', Samuel Smiths brewery bought the remains and restored it in every detail. The pub is easy to find as it is beside the up-line platform of Anerley Station (Overground and National Rail), i.e. the opposite side from the booking hall. Most members will be eating tonight as the food and drink prices are normal pub prices, i.e. slightly more expensive than Wetherspoons'. Please note that last orders for meals must be placed before 8.20pm. New members are especially welcome.

WINE TASTING - THE BORDEAUX BLEND
19:00 to 23:00

Tasting wines made from a single grape variety is a good way of learning how different grapes can result in very different wines. However using a mix of grapes can give great wines of which the prime example is Bordeaux.

Huw and Karunah are our hosts this evening when we will taste wines not only from Bordeaux but also from  winemakers in other parts of the world who make their wine using only the grape varieties permitted in Bordeaux. Nowadays these can be excellent indeed and the claim is made for some that they are superior to similarly priced Bordeaux wines. Let's see what we think.

Although white Bordeaux is also a blend, by the 'Bordeaux Blend' it's red wine that's meant and Des has assembled a selection of almost exclusively red wines for our tasting this evening although with some Sauternes to finish.

The tasting will be accompanied by cheeses, pates etc. The cost is £25 which should be good value as some of the bottles were bought when Waitrose were last offering 25% off all their wines and there will be our usual generous allowance.

Huw and Karunah live a pleasant 10 minute walk from East Croydon station. Email Des to book.

WINE TASTING - SUMMER WINES
00:00 to 23:00

Ann is our host this evening and, weather permitting, the tasting will be in her garden.

'Summer wines' is perhaps a rather nebulous category. Think of in the main lighter wines to be enjoyed cool on a warm day and you've got the picture. Whites and rosés, including some sparkling wines from England and Champagne, with just a few reds to give some depth. While the emphasis will be mainly on enjoyment  there will be some seriously good wines included and   opportunities to compare similar wines from different regions.

At some suitable break in our tasting Ann will be serving a salmon (taken from the Tay that morning!) and some other food.

Ann's house is just minutes from Hampstead Heath station.

There are always offers of one sort or another available but for what it's worth Des got many of these bottles at 25% or more discount so the £25 cost should represent good value. Email him to book.

WALKING/SIGHTSEEING HOLIDAY IN MADEIRA Headline

Walking/Sightseeing Holiday in Madeira Thursday 22nd November to Sunday 2nd December 2018 (provisional dates).  You can come for all or part of the time.

We will be based in Madeira's Capital Funchal close to the old town where there are a large number of tourist attractions.  The weather in Madeira is good all year round so bring your swimwear as well as your walking boots.

Most walking will be on the Levadas (irrigation channels) which provide easy level walking.  Walking is optional - if particpants prefer to do other things this is completely up to them.  This will be a very relaxed holiday.
