Sports & Keep Fit

Keep fit to music

A great way of enjoying music but also keeping healthy. Paul Pelengaris runs these regular events in Holborn. They involve an exercise class set to music with a warm up at the start & a cool down with stretching at the end. In between there is a 25 minute aerobic workout for the heart & lungs followed by floor work with resistive exercise. The instructor follows the RSA exercise to music guidelines & holds their qualification. After the class we all go down to the local pub for a drinks and food (not so healthy).

Badminton

David Erridge runs regular badminton sessions in Beckenham. Members usually play mixed doubles, with an average attendance of 12. IVC have 2 courts. No experience is necessary and racquets are available. The cost is only £3.50. No prior booking is required. There are refreshment afterwards at a nearby pub.

Tennis

Regular North London Saturday tennis is in what we hope is but temporary abeyance while we find an alternative venue acceptable to members. We played for many years in Victoria Park in Finchley and more recently in Muswell Hill.  North London Tennis is organised by Frank Harrison. Jeremy May also has plans afoot to relaunch tennis somewhere south of the river in 2018 to replace what was a regular event in Barnes. Any member who would like to get in contact with either Frank or Jeremy may always email admin@londonivc.com if you cannot find their contact details on some other event in the diary.

Swimming

This is a regular event – always the Porchester Pool in Queensway W2, at 8.15pm every Wednesday.

We have the big pool to ourselves from 8.15 until 9.00.
Beginners are welcome. Stronger swimmers can join in an informal game of water polo which is more fun than just swimming lengths. Upon arrival at the Porchester Pool entrance tell them you are with IVC in the big pool, then pay our treasurer later. The cost is £5 for IVC members and £6 for guests. There is no need to book. Afterwards we go to a local pub, usually The Leinster in Leinster Terrace.

And the rest...

Are there any other sports that interest you? Cricket and Five-a-side football used to be popular in IVC. Why not re-establish them or perhaps start a new sporting activity  - a great way of making new friends who share your sporting passion.
