Mountain & Moorland Walking

Mountain & Moorland walking - what does that conjure up? A group of people (not all from London IVC but many from associate IVCs and prospective members from across the country) rising at dawn after an uncomfortable night’s rest in some god forsaken place embarking on walks (in the pouring rain or blizzard) only to be remembered by the number of blisters they take home.

No, I hear you say, that can’t be true – and you would be right! The only truthful part is the broad spectrum of people we attract to our weekends. We generally stay in comfortable (warm) bunkhouse style accommodation with usually no more than 4 or 5 to a room with facilities close at hand in some of the most beautiful parts of the country.

We have stayed in North West Yorkshire, the Derbyshire Dales, the Brecon Beacons, the Lake District and Exmoor. Walks can vary in length (10- 15 miles) and depends on the numbers of walk leaders available. A packed lunch is provided on most weekends and dinner prepared by all (sometimes under the guidance of a professional chef) is usually the high part of the evening.

A better idea may be obtained from the attached website of a member - the web URL is
