Nature Group
Nature conservation volunteering
The Nature Group gives members an opportunity to enjoy practical, hands-on conservation work, nature surveys and regular visits to nature reserves. Most of our conservation work is at Westbere Copse Local Nature Reserve where we work with the West Hampstead Green Gym volunteer group. This site has benefitted greatly from the work of IVC volunteers over many years.
This is a gentle and undemanding way to become acquainted with the world of nature conservation. Tools training, first aid cover and free refreshments are all provided. Its a great way of making new friends in a relaxed atmosphere. We work in the reserve every Friday 10.45am-2pm. On the second Sunday of the month, from 12-2pm, we carry out bird and plant surveys.
Nature reserve visits
We also make day visits to nature reserves in and around London. And we host weekend nature experiences such as annual Norfolk Birdwatching Weekends and Kent Wildlife Weekends. For these we stay in comfortable hotels or B&Bs. Wildlife experts are always present to help you identify and enjoy what you see.
Lectures & workshops
In addition we have a programme of visits to lectures and workshops on wildlife subjects, such as the popular nature lectures at Birkbeck College and Astronomy lectures organised by the Royal Astronomical Society.
