IVC gets around! IVC has visited very many places and events of interest over the years and members are often interested in finding out more about them. On this page we list information about and links to places of interest in alphabetical order. We have also added some links that we think will be of interest to Londoners. Alexandra Palace A north London landmark. The grounds have been voted one of the nation's favourite green spaces. Antepiler Turkish Restaurant A glowing review for this Islington restaurant here from Time Out. Bank of England Museum Features regular exhibitions. Bistro 1 One of the many popular eating places in Covent Garden and recently visited by IVC. Borderline Club A great little music venue in a basement off Charing Cross road that we visit for Rhythm Gigs concerts. Camden Market Features in our visits to Iconic London sites. Chislehurst Caves Readily accessible from London and visited recently by IVC. An atmospheric place with plenty of history. City Temple Hall The home of our popular Keep-Fit to Music sessions. Concert Artists Association This is where we hold our AGM. Features a bar with the cheapest prices in central London! Courtauld Institute of Art An international centre for for the study of the history of art and conservation and home to one of the finest small art museums in the world. Down House The home and workplace of Charles Darwin. There is much to see here, including attractive gardens. Duke of Kendal In the heart of Connaught Village and famous for its Sunday night Knees-up sing-along sessions. Earls Court Greatest of the exhibition venues. Epping Forest One of London IVC's favourite green places. The web site is rich with information about this great woodland. Garden Studios These folks provide our office facilities in Covent Garden. The Glastonbury Festival. We work here every year as recycling volunteers which rewards us with free tickets, free meals and more. The world's greatest performing arts festival - unmissable! Green Note A live music venue and vegetarian cafe-bar in Parkway, Camden Town that features great music in a cosy, friendly atmosphere. London IVC regularly visits the Open Mic sessions here. Hamilton Hall A Wetherspoons pub located in Liverpool Street Station and another favoured IVC watering hole. It is named after Lord Claud Hamilton, chairman of the Great Eastern Railway Company (1893-1923) which originally built Liverpool Street station. The pub is the former ballroom of the old Great Eastern Hotel. The Jugged Hare A popular venue for Club Night. This Fuller's pub is a converted bank. The Leinster Arms This is where our swiiming group relax after their excursions. London Athenians Toastmasters Club A club for people wanting to improve their public speaking skills, regularly visited by London IVC. London Canal Museum A fascinating waterways museum in Kings Cross in a former ice cream factory. Mansion House Grand venue for prestigious events including lectures attended by IVC. Moon and Stars Wetherspoons pubs, such as this popular site in Penge, are great places for IVC socials due to their excellent range of cheap real ales, value for money food, lack of loud music and friendly atmosphere. National Portrait Gallery The Gallery was founded in 1856 to collect portraits of famous British men and women. Explore over 175,000 portraits from the 16th Century to the present day. Ognisko This elegant Polish restaurant in South Kensington has been an IVC favourite for many years. O2 Shepherds Bush Empire A popular venue for gig visits. Penderal's Oak Another Wetherspoons favourite for IVC socials. Located in High Holborn it occupies the ground floor and cellar of Penderel House, named after Richard Penderel. At the end of the Civil War, in 1652, he helped King Charles II to escape from Cromwell's troops by hiding the royal fugitive in an oak tree on his country estate. Porchester centre This prestigious complex is where our swmming group meet every week for water polo and swimming. Prince of Wales This wonderful little pub in Highgate features good real ales and reasonably priced Thai food, making it an IVC favourite. Famous for its challenging pub quiz and Monty Python clientele. Queen of Sheba Excellent Ethiopian restuarant in Kentish Town. An exotic eating experience. Restaurant Erebuni A Russian and Armenien restaurant in Lancaster Gate. Hidden away but worth finding. Rose and Crown Located on Kew Green this is an IVC regular for friendly social evenings that boasts open fires and good food. Rhythm Gigs Promoters of quality veteran bands at the Borderline Club. Their gigs are much enjoyed by IVC members for their good music and friendly atmosphere.. Tate Modern Cutting edge modern art - an IVC favourite. The Silver Cross Long a popular pub for IVC socials and club nights.. Titos Peruvian Restaurant Visited regularly by IVC and boasts Desparate Dan size portions of excellent Peruvian food. Enjoy their musical web site! Victoria and Albert Museum The world's greatest museum of art and design. Walkers of Whitehall A meeting place for the IVC Arts Group. Built in 1694 it was originally an Irish bank. Westbere Copse Local Nature Reserve IVC's nature conservation enthusiasts work here every second Sunday of the month. William Morris Gallery Recently refurbished displays of the life and work of this 19th century political radical and innovative designer. |
